ABSTRACT
Kampung Sawah is a popular destination for immigrants from various regions. Although there are many differences arising from the immigrants, Kampung Sawah continues to maintain and preserve its culture, namely the Betawi Culture of Kampung Sawah. As the number of immigrants increases, the native people of Kampung Sawah begin to be overwhelmed in dealing with various problems arising from the immigrants, to the point that some cultures are starting to be forgotten. However, the native people of Kampung Sawah can introduce and maintain Betawi culture well to the immigrants. Therefore, the purpose of this study is based on two points, namely: 1) Describing the cultural adaptation strategies carried out by the native people of Kampung Sawah in dealing with the culture of immigrants, and 2) Describing the efforts made by the people of Kampung Sawah in maintaining Betawi Culture in daily activities. Data were collected through observation, interviews, literature studies, and documentation. Based on the results of the analysis of these data, the adaptation strategies carried out by the people of Kampung Sawah were obtained, namely by introducing and inviting immigrants to participate in various activities and traditions that they carry out. The goal is for newcomers to recognize and feel a part of Kampung Sawah, thereby encouraging them to participate in preserving the Betawi culture of Kampung Sawah. In preserving the Betawi culture of Kampung Sawah, the indigenous people not only rely on adaptation strategies for newcomers but also employ various efforts to maintain this culture. These efforts include holding forums for cultural activists, carrying out various traditional activities, and establishing arts and cultural studios. Therefore, this research yields strategies for adapting, maintaining, and preserving culture that can be emulated by communities in Indonesia.
